The Warriors The Beginning Fight Results and Pics

Jorge Moreno vs Curiel “The Butcher of Bakersfield” Delgado
The first fight of the night came between two new fighters out of Fresno and Bakersfield. Both fighters were very green but Jorge Moreno out of Camp Buhawe in Fresno seemed the more technical of the two and won by an arm bar at 1:34 into the first round.

Richard Coleman vs Mauricio Mejia
Mauricio Mejia was definitely the experienced fighter, coming into this bout with 2 wins and no defeats. Mejia was more comfortable on the ground quickly shooting in for a takedown in the first round and then worked for a full mount against Richard Coleman. Some ground and pound ensued before the end of the round. In the second, again Mejia shot for the takedown and this time was determined to finish the fight as the ref stopped the bout due to strikes at 37 seconds into the second round.

Garth Aguilar vs Anthony “A-Bomb” Vargas
Taking this fight on short notice was Anthony Vargas of Kings Knights. Vargas was at the weigh-ins supporting one of his teammates when he was approached by promoter Loren Lenares. Anthony without hesitation took the fight, did a quick face-off with Garth Aguilar and 24 hours later was in the cage earning a T.K.O. victory. Both fighters came out swinging with Aguilar getting the best of the exchange. Vargas immediately made the quick change and took the fight to the ground where he was able to mount and stop Aguilar. The fight ended at 1:58 into the first.

Juan Arellano vs Nick Montgomery
In the quickest fight of the night ending in 38 seconds, both fighters Montgomery and Arellano exchanged early blows before Arellano went in for a takedown. Nick saw an opening and sunk in a guillotine choke that forced Juan to tap.

Richard McDermont vs John Aguirre
In a somewhat interesting fight, Richard McDermont went the distance against John Aguirre. McDermont was able to win the first and last round to take the win in this stand up battle.

Patrick Gonzalez vs Jose Alvarado
Both fighters came out wanting the knockout and at times seemed a little wild but entertaining to the fans. Gonzalez was able to get in some good takedowns in the first and second rounds but Alvarado’s combinations were the difference in this three round clash.

John Fuller vs Luke Davis
In this one round melee, both John Fuller and Luke Davis went toe to toe most of the round. Davis had a never quit mentality and showed it by never tapping even though Fuller had locked in two different arm bars that seemed to be over-extending Davis’ arm beyond the normal human limit. It was not until Fuller sunk in a triangle choke late in the round that knocked Davis unconscious that Fuller was given the submission victory.

Jeff Montelongo vs Dillen Hurle
Jeff Montelongo’s jiu-jitsu was not able to subdue Dillen Hurle as this fight only went 2 minutes into the first round. In Montelongo’s defense, he came into this fight being told he was facing a pro debut having about the same ring experience as himself. It was not until Jeff was in the cage and his opponent was announced to have had 5 previous fights did he realized he was not fighting an opponent of his caliber.

George Albanez vs Lil Bear
The fighters came out swinging like mad men in this heavyweight battle. Albanez the technical of the two fighters made quick use of his training and mounted his opponent and won by T.K.O. 58 seconds into the first round.

CJ Keath vs Ricky Willis
Ricky Willis was outmatched in this fight as CJ Keath was quicker and more experienced than the pro debut Willis. Keath used his speed for quick takedowns in the fight and capitalized in the second round winning by an arm bar at 1:53 into the round.

Jaime “El Cucui” Jara vs BJ “The Beast” Lacy
Fight of the Night and most definitely will be a contender for the Fight of the Year for 2009. I know we are only 16 days into the year but those of you that were there will agree that this was a bad ass fight. BJ really surprised me with his striking and kicks. Both fighters coming off losses had something to prove and needed a win to setup for a bigger fight in the future. Jara and Lacy took the fight with one weeks’ notice and still did not use it as an excuse as both fighters came to put on a show. Lacy controlled the fight early with his jab and leg kicks that were able to keep Jaime at bay. As the fight progressed, one could see the fighters tiring but neither let up their attack. Jaime constantly trying to take BJ down and submit but was having trouble in the early rounds. In the second, Lacy landed a monstrous right kick to Jaime’s head sending him to the canvas. Jara being the fighter that he is used his experience to survive the knockdown and the round. In the third round and BJ Lacy being ahead in the scorecards two rounds to none, Jara needed something big to win this fight many thought he would win easily. It came at 1:45 into the third and final round and BJ seemed to have gassed out and Jaime was able to squeeze onto a guillotine choke that stopped the fight. We will try to have this video for you soon on BloodyMayhem.com for you to see and also because I would love to see this fight again. Congratulations to both fighters for giving us a great show.

Jesse Taylor vs Rico Altamirano
In the Main Event of the evening, the Ultimate Fighters Jesse Taylor seemed to easily over power a much smaller Rico Altamirano. In both rounds of the fight, Taylor took Rico to the ground and worked for position most of the fight and in the second was able to get a rear naked choke at 2:00 minutes into the round.
