Tachi Palace Fights 2 - December 3, 2009

Ulysses Gomez vs Chino Nicholas

Ulysses "Useless" Gomez wins by standing guillotine at 4:31 of round 1 over Chino Nicholas.

Xavier Foupa-Pokam vs Anthony Ruiz

UFC Veteran Professor X came out with authority, throwing a big Anthony Ruiz all over the place. It seemed as if Professor X was going to cruise to an easy victory once he locked in the body triangle and had Anthony's back, inching his way toward a rear naked choke. But if you have seen Anthony Ruiz fight, it is not over until the bell has rang and someone's hand is raised in victory. Ruiz fought off his back most of the first round until he was able to turnover into Xavier's guard in the final moments.

The second round started just as the first with Xavier enforcing his will on Anthony. But as the round continued, Professor X seemed to Slow down and Ruiz just kept his strong steady "in your face" pace. In the third round, a noticeably tired Professor X was fighting more to stay alive in the 5 minute round than fight for a win. Anthony "A-Train" Ruiz, well . . . he just kept coming, like he always does.

At the end of the 3 round fight, the judges gave the fight to Anthony Ruiz, who took the fight on a 2 week notice. Congrats to Anthony as he has had a couple fights drop off on him and it was good to see him back in the cage. If the cut over his right eye heals in time, Anthony Ruiz will be squaring off against Marvin "The Beastman" Eastman at Chukchansi Park on January 23.

Eddie "The Filipino Phenom" Yagin vs Diego "The Octopus" Saraiva

In one of the best fights of the year, Diego Saraiva took a TKO victory over Las Vegas' Eddie Yagin. In the first round the fight was a one-sided affair with Eddie using his speed to strike at will and avoid any major damage. Saraiva was looking as if he was getting into a rythym toward the end of the round, bloodying up Yagin's nose.

Saraiva had an un-orthodox fighting style, almost looking a bit elementary, but it worked because in the second round Diego landed almost half the punches he threw. The third followed with much of the same, Diego landing punches and a very tired and gassed Yagin trying to survive the fight. After a couple of minutes the ref called a timeout in the fight so that the ringside doctor could have a look at Eddie Yagin's badly cut face. Moments later the bout was called due to the cut over Yagins eye. Diego was declared the winner due to dCoctor stoppage.

One thing I will bring up is Eddie Yagin's corners poor performance in between rounds. Both times coming into the second and third round, Yagin began the round just as he has ended the previous, with a bloodied face! What the hell was his corner thinking?? They didn't clean his face or had any equipment to stop the bleeding. I personally believe this played huge part in Yagin's loss. Let's hope next time out he brings a better cutman or any cutman in general.
Sorry Eddie about the bad corner you had.

Cyrille "The Snake" Diabate vs Rob Smith

What can I say? Well, Cyrille had this fight the entire time. His opponent Rob Smith after a failed neck crank on Diabate, which quickly turned into a Rear Naked Choke victory by Cyrille at 1:47 into the fight. It was nice to see "The Snake" back in Lemoore and we hope to see him again very soon.

David Mitchell vs Bobby "King" Green

David Mitchell made quick work of his opponent Bobby Green, who showed some promising sights on his feet. But as soon as Mitchell went for the takedown the fight was over. From his back Santa Rosa's Mitchell quickly grabbed the Toe Hold and didn't let go until the ref told him to stop. David Mitchell improves to 9-0.

Shawn Klarcyk vs Jesse Bowen

A good match-up between grappler and striker, as the well-versed submission grappler Shawn Klarcyk looked to stop Jesse Bowen's 5 fight win streak. The fight opened up as all of Bowen's fights do, with Jesse throwing punches looking to surprise his opponent, it worked. Klarcyk immediately recognized it and went for the takedown. This is where Shawn is comfortable and it showed, trying multiple submissions on Bowen. Jesse had an answer for every one of those attempts and managed to escape. The fight quickly changed tides when Klarcyk stood over Bowen who had his back on the canvas and Bowen managed to throw a monster right leg kick from his back that hit an unexpected Klaryck on the side of the neck and send him crashing to the ground. Bowen quickly jumped on Shawn and the bout was stopped. It might have been stopped prematurely, thats my opinion, but either way Bowen seemed to have had the fight wrapped up by then.

Great kick, Jesse.

Romulo Melo vs Cody Canterbury

Romulo Melo out-matched his opponent Cody Canterbury (1-9) in a submission victory. The bout was called at 2:17 with Canterbury tapping out due to Rear Naked Choke.

Cody Gibson vs Ray "Bay Ray" Cervera

Cody "The Renegade" Gibson defeats Ray "Bay Ray" Cervera by split decision 29-28. That's about as exciting as the fight got.
